Returning to Geneva
Tomorrow morning I depart on a journey that will take me to Geneva, Switzerland. Upon returning I will have completed my Masters in Education and will rejoice in being done with school (until the next episode). This will be my second visit to Geneva as part of my graduate program and as the moment of departure approaches, my excitement about this trip increases.
Geneva is a pretty awesome place and my residence during my stay, the John Knox Center, is perhaps the most idyllic location on the planet. Nestled in the hills of Grand-Saconnex, a suburb of Geneva the boarders France, the JKC is a hostel-esque facility that is used mainly by delegates to the United Nations and graduate students like me.
It is surrounded by farmland, sun flower fields, embassies, NGO buildings, and parks, always overshadowed by mountains in the distance and from certain vistas, the magnificence of Lake Geneva. The buildings that make up the JKC are a mix of modernist and traditional alpine chalet style structures, which gives the place a strange/charming science fiction meets fairytale vibe. Check out the video below to get a taste of it:
Because my work/study in Geneva is fairly intense (9 credits of graduate work, plus meetings, field trips, wine / chocolate feasts, etc.), I found it hard to find time to blog much last time around. However, this time will be different; I just know it will be. Even if I a do bum out / decide my time is better spent enjoying the moment rather than writing about it for later, my Twitter feed / Facebook status will be updated on a regular basis to serve as a sort of micro-blog. You can also keep up with the Twitter feed on the right sidebar of this page. All kinds of options.
